27a - Reading Reflection #3

For this reading reflection I read the book “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson
1)    You read about an entrepreneur
a.     What surprised myself the most was about Steve Jobs’ upbringing and how his mother and father were very strict and hard on him in almost every aspect of his young life.
b.     I most admired how he epitomized putting ‘people before profits’
c.     There wasn’t much that I least admired about Steve Jobs especially when you look at all of his success, but something that I would have attacked differently would be his initial decisions early on to try and do everything by himself. I think to succeed in life we need to find mentors and ask for help by others.
d.     The adversity that Steve Jobs encountered was early on no one believed that his idea for a digital computer would ever be needed by society.
2)    The competencies I noticed about Steve Job was he wanted all of his employees to understand the ‘why’ behind what they were doing. Why were they making this computer products to Steve Jobs was way more important than understanding the how or the what aspects of operations.
3)    The third chapter wasn’t clearest to me, but at the same time this was during the 1970’s and the workforce looked a lot differently than what I’m used to here in 2019
4)    My two questions would be: “If there was something that you could go back and do over again with your company Apple, what is that and what would you change?”. And, “what are some books that you recommend a young future entrepreneur like myself to read?”.
5)    Steve Jobs definition of hard work would be to find out what you love and what you’re passionate about, then to dive whole heartedly into that field and never stop until you get to where you never dreamed you could be.

  1. Hi Evan!

I thought that it was brilliant that Steve Jobs made sure his employees always understood the "why" behind products. It definitely made the workers more motivated in their work and even more passionate about introducing the certain product to the world. I agree with you that mentors are important for success. It is only my first year in college and I definitely have a couple people I would call my mentors.

  3. Hey Evan!
Great job on this week’s blog post. I read the Steve Jobs book for the first reading reflection, so I can definitely relate to specific things in your post. For example, while reading the book, I also found that Jobs’ childhood was very astonishing for someone who turned out to be so successful. Overall, I think you did a great job on the final reading reflection!

  4. Hi Evan,
Good job on your third reading reflection. I enjoyed the summary you wrote about Steve Jobs, mostly because it was my first time learning about his life. I agree when you said that you would have him change his point of view about asking for help. It is important to get guidance and advice, especially when being an entrepreneur because everything is so different and foreign.
