25a: What's Next?

Existing Market
-       Next in terms of products and service for my venture idea would be to talk to current people of expertise in my field of interest and find out the hurdles that they personally had to jump through in order to get to where they’re today.
-       Three different interviews
o   1st: I talked with Mr. Joseph Hsia at Publix foods and laid my idea out to him. His response to the question posed was to look for internships in my summers that pertained specifically to client/customer relations to better my understanding of customer care experience.
o   2nd: I talked with Ms. Jenny Ryan at Metro Diner and laid my idea out to her. Her response was to figure out the financial trials and tribulations I would have to go through in order for this idea to be sufficient. She had a similar idea growing up about opening up a restaurant and it ended up costing a lot more than she expected.
o   3rd: I talked with Ms. Alexandria Carlin at Pascals Coffee Shop and laid my idea out to her. Her response was she really liked my ambition and my culmination of a restaurant, coffee shop, and study space all in one.
-       What makes most sense for my venture moving forward would be to try and earn an internship for an upcoming summer in the field of customer service to really get my feet wet within that specific industry. Also, to continue to keep talking to other people in my related field because I know trials and tribulations are going to occur organically, and to have the best understanding possible to overcome them when they arise.

New Market
-       A very different market from my own that I am targeting would be opening up a similar style restaurant in Orlando, or downtown Tampa. One with a drastically different atmosphere and business than quiet Gainesville produces. This market would be much more difficult to suffice just due to the volume of people in that general area as well as the traffic that is produced.
-       My idea could produce value to people in that specific market because they in turn could be interested and/or looking for the type of business investment I’m willing to produce.
-       Two different interviews
o   I talked with Mr. Rodrigo Amarya from Recreational Sports here at UF and laid out my business idea. His response to me was that I have a more small-town kind of vibe to my restaurant and location would be huge moving and would ultimately determine my success vs failure rate
o   I talked with Ms. Julianna Ryan from the Independent Alligator student newspaper and laid out my business idea. Her response was that this is something that could bode well for the city of Gainesville.
-       About this new market I have learned a tremendous amount of information of how drastically different markets differentiate the customer service rate. Also by going through these interviews I’ve learned dramatically about location is everything related to our sense of success in this industry.

  1. Hey Evan,

Good job with your post about what is coming next for your company. I like how you ventured out for your new market to another demographic region. I think if your idea were to succeed here in Gainesville, it should also be working in Orlando. However, it can be said that the two areas have two different demands and in Orlando there may be plenty of brunch serving places. Good job over all.

  2. Hey Evan!
Great job on this week’s blog post! I really enjoyed how descriptive you were about the future of your venture. I can definitely agree that getting an internship that deals with customer service will be key for the idea of your restaurant. It will help you gain a better insight on how to handle customers and always keep them happy. Overall, great job!

  3. Hi Evan,
Great job with your post on figuring out what happens next. Talking to people and figuring out what their obstacles were is a very good idea to expand the existing market. That way you can know what is to look out for and how to navigate it. Hopefully, you would be able to find a solution better than others so you can be even more successful then they are.
