9a: Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

Opportunity Identified: Commercial Real Estate Investors are having to revise previous fundamental criteria such as public transit and infrastructure access points when developing properties nationwide due to climate change and rising sea levels.

The first person I interviewed was my mother, who lives in Wake Forest NC.

Who: My mother like most people in the Raleigh area in NC fall outside of the boundary of this opportunity because at the very center of the state of NC, rising sea levels are not an issue for them. Also with constant changing of the climate fails to create any dramatic difference in the area of commercial buildings needing to be revised.

What: This need I identified differs from another need due to the geography that’s depicted in the piedmont region of NC where rolling hills are prominent.

Why: Absolutely my mother falls out of the boundary of need in this scenario, but her need is drastically different from the need of someone inside of the opportunity crisis such as a commercial real estate developer.

The second person I interviewed was my father, who lives in Wake Forest NC.

Who: My father who also lives in Wake Forest NC, lives outside of the boundary line as well for those individuals affected by the opportunity I have depicted above. His location is the main cause of this.

What: This need depicted above is different from other needs my father faces because he is unaffected by the opportunity of the our climate changing and rising sea levels.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders’ needs are very different from someone on the inside the boundary because this opportunity is only prevalent to very few people in our country.

The third person I interviewed was my cousin who lives in Ft. Lauderdale

Who: My cousin Melanie falls inside the boundary lines for those who are affected by the opportunity shown above because she lives on the coast down in Florida – where rising sea levels are felt every year along with climate change causing ocean water to heat up and cause hurricanes.

What: This need differs from other needs due to their individual implications that are caused by them. The severity of each issue causes the order between them.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders’ need is due to their direct implication with living on the coast of Florida and how this very issue impacts their life.

The fourth person I interviewed was a male student at UF.

Who: This individual living here at Gainesville is for the most part unaffected by climate change and the rising sea levels from day to day. Talking with him he knew that climate change is a thing, but how it doesn’t affect him right now

What: This need differs from another due to the fact that this issue as of right now is not prominent in this male UF student’s life and how its on the back burner right now.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders’ need is different because he is unaffected by the situation at hand in all ways.

The fifth person I interviewed was a female student at UF.

Who: Again this student falls outside of the boundary of those affected due to her lack of presence of the issue at hand.

What: This opportunity differs from other’s because in college kids lives, the need that is most at hand is the one that is dealt with first and not the other way around. The opportunity that exists doesn’t affect UF students.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders’ need is different because she is unaffected by the situation at hand in all ways.

Inside the Boundary

-       Commercial Real Estate Developers, Private Equity Brokers, individuals who live on the coast, individuals who live in high pollution areas

-       The need is due to rising sea levels affecting coastal towns and their future plans infrastructure wise. Also with the changing climate.

-       The need exists because we as humans are having to shape the technology and ways we live.

Outside the Boundary

-       Individuals who live anywhere but the coast of a state, home owners who live in new model homes, college students

-       The need is not prevalent just because it fails to affect them and isn’t their top priority

-       Alternate explanations include how their main focus and energy in their life is pointed at a different sphere.
