8a: Solving the Problem
Opportunity
Identified: Commercial Real Estate Investors are having to revise previous
fundamental criteria such as public transit and infrastructure access points when
developing properties nationwide due to climate change and rising sea levels.
Product/Service
to counteract problem: With the problem listed above, it’s inevitable and never
going to go away. With that being said there are a couple measures a country or
city can take to divert the problems that are coming our ways. First with rising
water levels in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, transporting electric infrastructure
up off the bottom floors/basements of buildings and to numerous floors up with benefit
keeping the hardware of a building intact and safe. Constructing water proof
fences around older buildings that are subject to water damage would benefit
those infrastructures from deteriorating. Flood prevention building criteria needs
to be taken more serious as well in high risk areas – minimum elevation heights
need to be implemented across the board. These changes need to be the highest
priority in coastal areas in prepping for climate change and rising water
levels.
ReplyDeleteEvan, I think your ideas are great. Especially the water proof fences. I think that flood prevention does need to be taken more seriously because people in coastal areas are at risk for rising water levels one day. Climate change is hard to fix because it is pretty much inevitable but I think your ideas would be helpful to people who live in areas that could experience climate change.
Hey Evan!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your solutions to commercial real estate investor problems with climate change. One specific that I enjoyed the most is transporting electric infrastructure to higher ground. After a major hurricane rips through a state, many people decide to either sell their home as-is or they rebuild and reconstruct their homes. One of the first measures that most people take is either elevating their entire home, if they live relatively close to bodies of water, or elevating their electrical infrastructure to the roof of their home or creating a concrete slab on the side of the home to avoid getting ruined by floods. Overall, I think your problem was great and very thorough.
