Title: GOV.: LET PATIENTS SMOKE MARIJUANA
Description of Story: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis asked
for the Legislature to change the Florida state law to allow smoking medical
marijuana. In saying this DeSantis threatened to drop the state’s appeal of a
court decision that says banning marijuana violates a constitutional amendment
if the Florida lawmakers don’t comply with his order.
Description of Problem: Ron DeSantis states addresses
the national problem of should marijuana be legal or illegal, by stating that “whether
the patients have to smoke or not, who am I to judge that?” He pleads that he simply
wants people to be relieved from their pain, and that this law he is planning
to implement is not to harm the people of Florida.
Description of who has the Problem: This is a problem
that is dealt with by the state legislators of Florida, Ron DeSantis the governor
of Florida, and the patients that could be potentially be relieved of their
pain in Florida.
Title: U.S MAY ALLOW SUITS AGAINST CUBA
Description of Story: President Trump looks like he
plans to enact a long-frozen clause within the Cuban Embargo that would give
Americans who had property nationalized in Cuba to sue those now profiting from
it.
Description of Problem: If this action takes place travel
between Tampa and Cuba would be put on suspension for a short period of time
before both countries could come to a resolution.
Description of who has the Problem: Those who
directly face the problem are individuals who have property in Cuba that was
once nationalized by the Cuban Government way back when. This move by Trump
could freeze their profits coming out of Cuba since they would not have access
to the country for a period of time.
Title: 4 ARRESTED AT UNLICENSED ‘SEXUAL ENCOUNTER
CENTER’
Description of Story: 4 people were arrested after
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they operated an unlicensed sexual
encounter center and bottle club at a gated home.
Description of Problem: 4 individuals were arrested
after operating a sexual oriented business where they were charging money for people
to come in and explicit themselves. A business that requires a license in the
state of Florida but was done illegally in this case.
Description of who has the Problem: The problem lies
in with the 4 individuals who were charged with the incident of operating an
illegal sexual ring. But a bigger problem is how are these business’s legal
with a license in the state of Florida?
Title: AGENCIES FAILED TODDLER
Description of Story: Child welfare agencies missed another
warning sign, by failing to make home visits and saying nothing when a mother lied
in court about completing mandatory counseling classes to get her child back
from foster care.
Description of the Problem: It is becoming all too
common for mothers and fathers to lie and make up their hours served in
completing home visits and mandatory counseling classes in order to get their
children back.
Description of who has the Problem: This problem is
faced in the parents who are inept to take care of their kids and are cheating
their way to resolving this issue. Also the legislature that allows them to do
this is taking hit.
Title: GOV. IN WATER AGENCY FIGHT
Description of Story: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
called last week for eight board members of the South Florida Water Management
to resign marks the first time a governor has attempted to make such a sweeping
change to one of the state’s five water agencies.
Description of the Problem: The water agency fight
has been a continual debacle since 2012 in the state of Florida. DeSantis has
been a proponent of the sugar industry moving up from Miami to other parts in
Northern Florida.
Description of who
has the Problem: This problem is faced by the legislature that is trying to
push for the water agency to be passed in the Florida government, and by the
individuals who are directly affected by the contaminants in the water.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about your post this week. I think you had great articles that were related to this week's assignments. One article that I found to be quite interesting is where Governor DeSantis is asking to change the medical marijuana law where patients are not allowed to legally smoke marijuana. I also really enjoyed reading about DeSantis’ efforts to make changes to the water agencies in our state. Overall, I really enjoyed your layout for this post and I enjoyed learning about the local opportunities that you chose to discuss!
